CSSR celebrates 25 years of social science research and impact
The Centre for Social Science Research (CSSR) recently celebrated its 25th birthday, marking a quarter-century of research, scholarship and engagement on some of South Africa’s most pressing social challenges.
The birthday celebration, held in September 2026, brought together CSSR colleagues, researchers, alumni and friends of the Centre to reflect on its journey and the contribution it has made to social science research over the past 25 years.
The event featured reflections and presentations highlighting the Centre’s history, research and impact, while also providing an opportunity for colleagues and friends to reconnect and celebrate the people who have contributed to the CSSR’s work over the years.
A special highlight was the celebration cake, beautifully baked by Ruwayda Ismail, adding a fitting touch to the milestone occasion.
As the CSSR looks towards the next chapter of its journey, the 25th birthday provided an opportunity to celebrate its history while looking ahead to its continued contribution to research and public engagement.
