HSRC Policy Trainee

Kwanele Qonono is a PhD candidate in Urban and Regional Sciences at Stellenbosch University and a trainee at the Human Sciences Research Council (HSRC). His areas of specialisation include urban geography, environmental studies, disaster risk sciences, and development studies, with a strong focus on Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Remote Sensing. He is keenly interested in public policy, disaster risk science, and urban and regional planning. His primary research focuses on differentiated approaches to urban development, particularly highlighting the roles and strategies of intermediary cities and small towns.
