The School of Education
The Schools Development Unit (SDU) is part of the School of Education, and the Director of the SDU also heads UCT’s Schools Improvement Initiative (SII). The SDU is deeply involved with school improvement and teacher professional development. It engages in a variety of school-based activities and projects from Grade R to Grade 12, and delivers accredited programmes and short courses.
A general Honours programme and a wide range of taught Master’s degree options form the focus of the higher degree teaching in the School. The PhD is by research only. It attracts an array of candidates across many fields of education.
The School of Education is committed to both initial teacher education and Continuing Professional Development (CPD), and its teacher education programmes draw on research depth and subject expertise, as well as on the experience of the SDU and SII. The School is also committed to research and postgraduate studies in teacher education.
