What can I change?

Through a change of Curriculum request, you are able to (pending approval by the relevant authorities):

  • Change your Programme/Degree (either within your Faculty offerings, or to another Faculty);
  • Change your majors or specialisation;
  • Add courses; and/or
  • Withdraw from courses.

  1. Consult the Humanities Undergraduate Handbook to find all options available to you.
  2. We recommend that you consult a Curriculum Advisor prior to submitting a change of curriculum request. Remember, this may have graduation, readmission and/or fee implications!
  3. Complete an Application for Change of Curriculum (ACA09) form. You may also require a concession for your request.
  4. Submit this ACA09 form (and concession form, if applicable) to a service request on PeopleSoft. Additional submission instructions can be found here: https://vula.uct.ac.za/x/2kCokU
  5. Monitor your service-request in PeopleSoft to see any comments left for you.
  6. Once your service request moves to ACCEPTED-status, check your transcript and fee statement within 72 hours to confirm all is in order.

Should you wish to change the courses you are currently enrolled for, it is possible to do so even after the registration period -

  • First Semester (F-) and Whole year (H-/W-) courses may be changed until the end of the first week of first-semester lectures, and you will receive a full refund for courses you drop or no penalty for courses you add.
  • Second Semester (S-) courses may be changed until the end of the first week of second-semester lectures with no penalties.
  • Winter Term (L-) courses may be changed until the Friday preceding the start of winter-term lectures with no penalties.
  • Summer term (P-) courses may be changed until the Friday preceding the start of summer-term lectures with no penalties.

Should you make any changes after these dates, you may pay fee penalties.

The below table (also found in Sections 2.3 & 2.4 of the Fees Handbook) includes deadlines for course changes in 2022 and the corresponding penalties:

Information for Sponsored/Financial Aid-receiving students

Curriculum changes may have funding implications. You are required to consult your funder, prior to the completion of a curriculum change, regarding the impact on your continued eligibility for funding. It is your responsibility to ensure that you have consulted and received approval from your sponsor regarding changes to your studies.
