How does filmmaking affect environmental humanities?
In "Losing Face: Troubling human subjectivity through character development with merino sheep on southern rangelands" Dr Annika Capelán as part of the European Union (EU) Marie-Skłodowska Curie Global Fellow (MSCA) project WOOL - Studying industrial landscapes through collaborative filmmaking, will focus the attention on the role of filmmaking as a modality of critical inquiry into Environmental Humanities (EH). Dr Capelán is a postdoctoral research fellow based at Environmental Humanities South (EHS), University of Cape Town (UCT).
In this upcoming seminar, Dr Capelán will offer a presentation based on a chapter she wrote for an edited volume on Empirical Art – Filmmaking for fieldwork in practice. The volume focuses on the practicalities around filmmaking. Instead of asking the question of how EH affects filmmaking, Dr Capelán asks: how does filmmaking change EH?
The seminar will be useful for scholars of environmental humanities, filmmakers, as well as researchers and students looking to expand their understanding of creative and artistic methodologies of research across transnational borders.
Date: 18 October 2023
