Dr Motuma
Dr. Motuma is currently serving as a Deputy Director General of the Ethiopian Forestry Development, which is a federal institution, mandated on all aspects of the forest sector in Ethiopia. Ahead of taking this position, he was serving as an academic staff and researcher with academic rank of Associate Professor of Forest Ecology at Hawassa University, Wondo Genet College of Forestry and Natural Resources. He is involved in publication of 30 journal articles, 4 proceedings and 3 book chapters. On top of teaching, research and administrative assignments, he has tremendous experiences of leading and also working as a team member in many consultancies (23 different assignments) in the forest sector. Dr. Motuma’s recent consultancy work includes benefit sharing mechanism of Oromia Forested Landscape Program which involved an intensive community consultation across Oromia. He also worked as a research fellow at CIFOR on Migration, Remittance and Forest Dependence and he also worked as senior forest and landscape advisor for southwest forests and landscape grouping which mainly focused on participatory forest management approach. Dr. Motuma has also led forest management activities at grassroots level before joining Hawassa University. Most importantly, he worked as block ranger, branch manager and planning division head of the then Shashemene Forest Industry Enterprise – now Arsi brach of OFWE.
