Shari is a geographer and poet from Cape Town. Shari recently took up the post of Director of the Learning Support Unit in the Humanities Faculty at UCT. Shari sits on the board of advisory for Environmental Humanities South. She also serves on the editorial boards of Critical African Studies and GeoHumanities.

Shari's academic work explores a range of cultural themes related to identity, place and everyday life, including in spaces of higher education. Shari has published academic research in a range of geographical journals, and recently co-edited Epistemic Justice and the Postcolonial University (Wits University Press 2023). Her poetry and essays trace entangled geographies of lineage, place, and the body. Her work has appeared in literary journals Obsidian, Stanzas, and New Contrast, and in several South African anthologies. Shari's debut collection of poetry and prose will be published by Karavan Press in 2024.
