Dr Seleshi Degefa
Sileshi Degefa is currently an associate professor at the Center for Environmental Science, Addis Ababa University, specializing in Sustainability Science. He earned his PhD in Sustainability Science from the United Nations University in Tokyo, Japan. During his doctoral research, he focused on the intricate relationship between Food Security, Biodiversity, and Climate Change. Alongside his academic responsibilities, Sileshi has held key positions such as Executive Director for Addis Ababa City River Basin and Green Area Agency and Executive Director for Gullele Botanic Garden. His efforts have contributed to the greening of Addis Ababa. Moreover, Sileshi has served as Secretary for Center of Excellence (CEO), a team of experts who technically supports Farmers Based Natural Regeneration (FMNR), a World Vision Ethiopia project. Currently teaching and advising students at Addis Ababa University Center for Environmental Science, he has also coordinated various consultancy projects including Third National Communication Report preparation, City Wide Biodiversity Study, and Preparation of Roadmap for parks and Recreational systems in Addis Ababa. In addition to his professional achievements, Sileshi has published about 20 scholarly articles. Notably, he is currently serving as the site principal investigator for the Critical Zone Africa South and East Project.
