The African Gender Institute invites you to a series of conversations,choreographed with Desiree Lewis (Women&Gender Studies, UWC) and a panoply of provocative feminist interlocutors.

DATES: 9th, and 11th September; 5.30 – 7.30 (later)
VENUE: Centre for African Studies Gallery, Upper Campus, University of Cape Town (parking in P11)

All conversations will be highly participative... Bring your opinions,
your stories, your flames, your friends. All sessions will be accessible and sign-language interpreted.

MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 9th: “dangerous work to do”

Foregrounding “danger” (rather than “violence”), Desiree Lewis will be in conversations with Nosipho Vidima, Mamello Sejake, and Jane Bennett on the meaning of risk in feminist work on sexuality, eroticism, choice-making, and transaction.

WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 11th: “feeling and ugly”

Dania Mupotsa and Desiree Lewis debate the challenge of neoliberalism for decolonial feminist struggle. The conversation will be followed by the launch of “feeling and ugly”, Danai Mupotsa’s acclaimed poetry collection
