Critical Zones Africa mourns the passing of Prudence Tambura from Zimbabwe CZA research study site

It is with heavy sadness that Critical Zones Africa (CZA) announces the passing on of the Zimbabwe research site Critical Zones Africa team’s PhD candidate Prudence Tambura. Tambura passed on after a short illness in Harare, Zimbabwe on Thursday 27 March 2025 and was interred at the Warren Hills Cemetery on Sunday 30 March 2025. Over the past number of days, condolence messages have pouring in, expressing the immense pain which this loss of a young life has brought in this Science for Africa Foundation consortia. Prudence was warm, enthusiastic, and looking forward to carry out her study. CZA communications manager Mpho Ndaba, through a weekly series that seeks to capture the dissertation proposal development and fieldwork experiences of CZA graduate students and fellows, had been in conversation with Tambura who submitted a reflective piece that was meant to be published this week. To honour Tambura’s life, we have decided to continue with the publication of this piece, despite Tambura’s untimely demise. Tambura was a committed environmental management professional who held a Bachelor of Science Honors degree in Applied Environmental Science and executive certificates in Community Development and Humanitarian Project Management and another one in Monitoring and Evaluation all from the University of Zimbabwe. She held a Master’s degree in Natural Resources Management and Environmental Sustainability from Bindura University of Science Education in Zimbabwe.
