Brief Biography:

Dr Khosi Kubeka joined the department in 2010 as an AW Mellon Postdoctoral Research Fellow. She is currently a Senior Lecturer in the Department. She obtained her Bachelor in Social Work degree from the University of Cape Town in 1999. During her Social Work training, she was fascinated by and became passionate about Research. After graduating with her Social Work degree, she pursued an MPhil in Social Research Methods at the University of Stellenbosch in 2000. She currently teaches research methods and coordinates all the research programmes in the department of Social Development at UCT. Dr Kubeka also holds a Masters and PhD degrees in Sociology from The Ohio State University in the United States. Her areas of research and teaching interests are in Youth Developmental Wellbeing, particularly: Youth Identity, Youth Participation, Exclusion/Inclusion in Education, Health, and the Economy as well as Youth contribution to Community Development. Her research focus is also on substance use disorders, particularly as it impacts youth development, community development and the functioning of families.

Youth Developmental Well-Being with special focus on Youth Education, Youth Health (Mental health, Sexual Reproductive Health, Substance Use Disorders), Youth Employment/Unemployment, Youth Participation, Youth Identity, Youth Social Exclusion/Inclusion and Substance Use Disorders.
