Brief Biography:

Amanda Manqoyi-Ouamba is a product of the Department. She joined the UCT community in 2011 as a social work student. During her undergraduate studies she obtained a wealth of experience working as a research assistant in the Health Economics Unit School of Public Health and Family Medicine here at UCT. This experience sparked a great interest in research. She later completed her MSocSc in Social Development by dissertation and graduated with a distinction in 2018. Amanda has been assisting with teaching and supervision responsibilities in the Department since 2017. She is currently working on her PhD thesis that examines the role of trust in facilitating collaborative efforts in managing substance abuse between parents, teachers, and school principals in schools.


Research Interest Areas:

Management, prevention, and treatment of substance abuse and related issues in schools. Amanda is also interest in relationship dynamics and collaborative efforts between various stakeholders within the schooling system. Here research brings to the forefront some of the issues our schooling system is grappling with and aims to find better solutions in addressing them.
