Theresa de Young
Theresa completed a solid MPhil (Res) with distinction in the Department prior to joining DKIS in March 2023 as lecturer.
Theresa has expansive professional practice experience in the field of knowledge and information stewardship through her years of service at the City of Cape Town, the Western Cape Education Department, and the National Research Foundation.
She also served as a member of the immediate past National Council for Library and Information Services (NCLIS), the statutory body that advises the respective South African Government Ministers on library and information related issues. Her active involvement with library and information science (LIS) professional body associations brings to DKIS professional preparation programmes, a wealth of knowledge and experience to enrich curriculum content as well as related research. Theresa’s professional teaching qualification and experience enables her to blend design thinking into her pedagogical approach in her classroom delivery.
Theresa teaches and supervises research in resource planning and use; teaching and learning in library and information services (LIS), and curation for digital media and formatting.
Her research focus is on the critical positioning of knowledge and information stewardship within scientific research infrastructures to enable significant breakthroughs and discoveries.
Her other research interests include teaching and learning in LIS, information-seeking behaviour, library history, digital curation, informetics and scientometrics as well as research ethics.
