Gabi Zietsman

Gabi Zietsman is the Learning Coordinator for Stepping Stone, the community engagement video training programme at UCT TV Studio. With a Master's in Film and Television from UCT and a Bachelor of Journalism from Rhodes University, Gabi has also worked as a journalist, documentary production everything-ist and film critic with over 10 years of experience in covering entertainment, travel, health, wildlife and environmental topics. While working for Stepping Stone, Gabi also tutors and does ad-hoc lecturing in UCT’s Centre for Film and Media Studies, across undergrad and postgrad levels. Her academic research work focuses on horror films in Africa and audiovisual archiving.

As a freelance South African film and television critic, Gabi has been writing for the number one South African news site News24 Arts & Entertainment. Her written work also includes conducting interviews with actors and filmmakers and deep dives into general film and TV topics. Gabi’s also worked on News24’s travel and health sections. For documentary, she’s worked on the SAFTA-winning children’s series Siyaya Come Wild With Us as part of FOP Films, and as the head video producer at the e-learning company Moonstone Information Refinery.
