Queer Feminist Film Festival 2019

Queer Feminist Film Festival (QFFF) is making a comeback to Bertha Movie House in Khayelitsha, Cape
Town, on the 24th and 25th of May 2019! Last year’s event was a huge success and, it only made sense
to make do it again.
QFFF is a feminist film festival for the LGBTQIA+ community to come together in celebration of queer
organizing, our experiences and sharing knowledge. And, it's the first of its kind locally!
Through the film festival, we’re working towards engaging and countering the disconnect between
queer and/ or feminist activists, creatives and the broader community. We're here to bring the queer
and/ or feminist community together!
When we speak about the disconnect we’re speaking about the frequent isolation of people and groups
within our communities as well as intergenerational divides – the two are threats to our movements,
our activism and the recollection of our histories.
So, we’ve come together as a collective of Black queer women living in Cape Town, and we've partnered
with pro-queer and feminist organisations, to organize a two-day festival.
For two days we’ll be screening films made by queer and feminist people about our experiences;
engaging in panel discussions that interrogate topics about the world that we live in, our experiences,
the spaces that we occupy and how we navigate our way through it all; exhibiting art; holding space for
each other; interrogating issues of representation and visibility; remembering who and where we come;
learning and unlearning together; raising awareness; taking up space and disrupting “norms”; and,
celebrating our beauty because, sibahle!
To make this the huge family get together that we envision we need to get the word out there. We need
to creep into different spaces, surf local airwaves (like yours), and paint the town queer. As a
community, we need spaces and moments like what we’re determined to create with the film festival.
They are lifelines – a source of salvation for many of us too. They are moments to connect, reconnect as
well as find and expand our tribe(s).
We have no choice but to leave no stone unturned. And, we’d like you to please help us make this
