Intersection of African spirituality and sexual diversity/Same sex identities: An Indigenous Zulu perspective

Dr Lindiwe Khuzwayo-Magwaza is a Senior Lecturer at the University of South Africa, in the College of Humanities, within the Department of Religious Studies and Arabic. She is also a founding member of the Phatheka Community Development and Research Centre in KwaZulu-Natal where she serves as a senior advisor in a volunteer capacity. The services she currently offers to the organisation include assisting individuals and families grappling with the intersection of spirituality, gender, and sexuality. She also provides counselling services to individuals and families dealing with ubungoma calling and issues within the LGBTIQA+ community. Dr. Khuzwayo-Magwaza’s research and teaching interests include Indigenous knowledge systems, traditional healing, gender studies, religion, and sexual diversity. She adopts an interdisciplinary approach grounded in Indigenous knowledge systems to bridge the gap between Western and African understandings of these fields. She has published several articles in her field of study and presented her work at various institutions of higher learning in South Africa and internationally.
