1. All History Access scholarships are conditional on maintaining full-time enrolment in the relevant postgraduate programmes (Honours, Master’s or PhD) at the Department of Historical Studies, University of Cape Town. If awardees register as part-time students, their scholarships will be suspended. This award restricts part-time employment to a maximum of 12 hours per week.
  2. An awardee must commence the scholarship in the year for which the scholarship was offered. Commencement of scholarships cannot be deferred.
  3. Research projects supported by the History Access scholarships must be consistent with the stated objectives of the History Access programme, and finalized in discussion with supervisors. Projects are not to change significantly during the duration of the award. Any such changes must be agreed by History Access.
  4. All awardees will be required to submit detailed reports of academic progress to the Director of History Access at the end of every semester with signed comments by supervisor(s). The scholarship for the next semester will be released upon approval of the report.
  5. All payments and disbursements are subject to complete adherence to all UCT rules and regulations governing scholarship programmes, as well as satisfactory academic performance in the research project.
  6. All awardees will be required to participate in the short-term vernacular language course programme, the Vernacular Universals workshops, and the Everyday Archives production sprints organized by History Access.
  7. Awardees must inform History Access in writing about any other scholarships, awards, or bursaries that may be held concurrently.
  8. History Access awards may be terminated at any time for reasons of unsatisfactory conduct, progress, or attendance, or if an awardee’s registration is suspended or terminated by the University for any reason.
  9. Awardees are expected to reside in Cape Town throughout the duration of their award, and to seek approval from History Access in advance for any overseas travel of longer than two weeks.
  10. All awardees must acknowledge the contribution of the source of funding when, at any time during or after completion of the programme, they publish or produce material such as books, articles, exhibitions, conference papers, podcasts, videos, or other digital, printed and artistic works which relate to the research project for which the History Access scholarship was awarded.
  11. History Access reserves the right to make the outputs of awardees’ research available to the public free of cost, without causing financial and professional damage to the students. The intellectual property ownership will lie with the awardees and be duly acknowledged on every occasion.
  12. History Access is committed to administering and managing its scholarships in a fair and transparent manner, and any grievance should be communicated in writing directly to the Director of the programme.
  13. All terms and conditions of award are subject to South Africa’s local law and practices, and are subject to change by History Access.
