Brief Biography:
My name is Silas Loubser and I am an alumnus of UCT. I entered the university as an undergraduate social work student in 2014. As an undergraduate student I was nominated for the Dean’s Merit List and graduated with a first-class pass in 2017. I
achieved a BA Hons in Social Development in 2018 and my MSocSc in Social Development was upgraded to PhD status in 2022. This academic trajectory has led me to be engaged in lecturing undergraduate social work modules at UCT and supervising social development students pursuing their MSocSc degree at the university. I am currently working on my PhD thesis that explores socio-cultural and structural aspects of inclusion of immigrant learners in mainstream primary schools. My research interests relate to education, educational practices and the broad conceptualization of inclusive education.

Title of Dissertation:
Socio-cultural and structural barriers to inclusive education of Black immigrant learners: Experiences and perceptions of Foundation Phase teachers, immigrant parents and school-based psycho-social specialists.
