Harriet Taylor

Stage Director

Harriet Taylor is an American director working across theatre, musical theatre, and opera.

She completed her BFA in Drama at New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts and worked in various capacities on/off-Broadway before moving to London for an MA at RADA. She completed the Royal Opera House’s Jette Parker Artist Program in August 2024.

At Covent Garden Harriet has directed across the mainstage and Linbury theatre. Projects include Full Moon in March, the ROH debut of John Harbison’s chamber opera, Nacht, a new commission for ROH’s Learning & Participation department, and Medea, semi-staged concert. She also co-directed scenes on the mainstage in 2023 and 2024 as part of the Jette Parker Program’s Summer Performance.

As an assistant director at the Royal Opera House, she has assisted on new productions of Das Rheingold (dir. Barrie Kosky), The Rape of Lucretia (dir. Oliver Mears), Il Trovatore (dir. Adele Thomas), and Seven Deadly Sins/Mahagonny Songspiel (dir. Isabelle Kettle) as well as revivals of Salome, Il Barbiere di Siviglia, Don Carlo, Le Nozze di Figaro, and Hansel & Gretel. Harriet also staged the 2023 gala at Clonter Opera and assisted on the 2024 revival of Giulio Cesare at Glyndebourne.

In theatre, Harriet has directed at UK institutions including the Barbican, Battersea Arts Centre, The Pleasance, The Coronet Theatre, Edinburgh Fringe, Theatre 503, and the Rose Theatre in Kingston where her work won the Audience Choice Award at the International Youth Arts Festival. Most of this work was done with Nothing to Perform (N2P), a theatre company she co-Artistic Directs with Scott Howland.
