Associate Professor Michael Campbell, convenor of the Jazz Studies Programme, holds a B.Mus (N.Texas St) and a Master's degree from UCT, has a professional background in jazz and the commercial music industry.

His particular fields of interest are composition and arrangement, and ensemble direction. He performs on the electric bass and piano. He is President of the South African Association of Jazz Educators (SAJE) and Director of the Cape Town Jazz Orchestra.
