In 2023, Simon Wu completed his BMus Honours at the South African College of Music at UCT where he studied piano under Assoc Prof Francois du Toit. In 2013, he was the winner of the Piano category as well as recipient of the third overall prize at the SAMRO Hubert van der Spuy National Music Competition. Early in 2015, Simon made his debut as a soloist with the UCT Symphony Orchestra at the SACS Concerto Festival. He also won the junior category of the Johann Vos Music Competition in the same year and performed as a soloist in the CPO Youth Music Festival in 2015, 2017 and 2019. In 2016, he was the winner of the senior category of the Johann Vos Music Competition. In 2018, he was placed 5th in the Hennie Joubert Piano competition and in the following year at UCT, he won the James de Villiers Prize for the Romantic category, as well as Laura Searle prize for concerto playing. In 2021, he was awarded the Olive Liebert prize for placing 1st in the open category, as well as the prize for the Best Performance of a Classical Work at the Johann Vos Music Competition. In 2022 Simon was the overall winner of the Classical Category of the FMR Bursary Award Competition and in 2023 he was winner of the SACM Lionel Bowman Piano Competition.
