The Department of African Studies and Linguistics would like to invite you to an afternoon of poetry and music.
Lesego Rampolokeng will be performing alongside Tefo Mahola on 7 December, 5pm to 7pm, at the CAS Gallery, Oppenheimer Building. The performance will be followed by snacks and drinks.
The event is funded by the Mellon Chair for Linguistics Diversity.

Lesego Rampolokeng is a poet, novelist, filmmaker, writing teacher and playwright. His poetry and genre-defying collections include A Half Century Thing (2015), Head on Fire: Rants / Notes / Poems 2001–2011, The Bavino Sermons (1999), Talking Rain (1993), and Horns for Hondo (1990). He is also the author of the novels Blackheart: Epilogue to Insanity (2004), Whiteheart: Prologue to Hysteria (2005) and Bird-Monk Seding (2017), which won the University of Johannesburg Prize in 2018. He has written plays including Fanon’s Children, Bantu Ghost and has made several documentary films including Word Down the Line and Song for Sharpeville. He has recorded several music albums such Bantu Rejex, Babylon Mission Report and EndBeginnings, with The Kalahari Surfers. and has been a serial collaborator over the years with a wide array of musicians and other artists. Tefo Mahola is a 28-year-old drummer/composer/pianist from Gugulethu, Cape Town. Tefo is the winner of the Best Jazz Album 2021 for the Mzantsi Jazz Awards, and has been touring the country alongside its greats. His touch on the drums and cymbals is out of the ordinary and a true sight to see and hear. His music is a true translation of his character and nature, with each song being an extension to a specific trait.
