Dime Motlalepula Serumula
Dime Motlalepula Serumula is completing his PhD in Civil Engineering (Transport Studies). His thesis focuses on evaluating the long-distance travel demands of paratransit (or minibus taxis), hitch-hiking and e-hailing services —including current and future influencing factors— for rural South Africa. Dime holds a double major BSc degree in Geoinformatics, Environmental and Geographical Science, and a BSc (Hon.) Atmospheric Science (Climate change and variability) and MSc (Eng.) Geomatics (GIS) from the University of Cape Town. His MA dissertation examined the capability of a geographic information system (GIS) tool, geo-masking, to understand the spatial characteristics of homeless individuals/groups in Cape Town City Bowl. He has held the South African Department of Transport (DoT) Sustainability Scholarship, SA National Research Foundation (NRF) Scarce Skills Master & Doctoral Scholarship, UCT Masters Research Scholarship, UCT Council Honours Merit Scholarship, Ada & Bertie Levenstein Bursary, Harry Crossley Postgraduate Scholarship, Rustenburg Anglo Platinum Bursary, and other funding through UCT Centre for Transport Studies (CfTS).
