Marcos C. Lopes: Panorama of African philosophy in Brazil today

HUMA African Epistemologies Advanced Seminar Series
Introduction: I propose an overview of the development of African philosophy in Brazil since the implementation of Law 10.639 in 2003. I highlight its various complementary paths in pedagogical, political and aesthetic articulations; the rescue and reappropriation of authors; the transforming epistemological opportunity exemplified by the University of International Integration of Afro-Brazilian Lusophony and the challenges of African philosophy in Brazil.
About the speaker: Marcos Carvalho Lopes is a professor of African philosophy at the University of International Integration of Afro-Brazilian Lusophony (UNILAB), Brazil, currently working on how to forge stronger links between Brazilian and African philosophers. To this end, he is developing a series of interviews with various philosophers working on similar synergies that he hopes to eventually publish as a book.
