The Zambian Election Panel Study
The third wave of ZEPS is in the field. ZEPS is a three-wave panel study of voters, mostly in Zambia’s Lusaka, Eastern and Muchinga provinces. The first two waves were conducted in June, July and early August, prior to the election. The third wave is being conducted now, after the election. ZEPS is a collaboration between the IDCPPA, the University of Gothenberg and researchers in Zambia and elsewhere. ZEPS data will allow us to analyse how, when and why voters made their choices in the August elections – and how these choices were affected by the tactics of the competing parties and candidates. The panel design should help us to understand how, when and why former supporters of incumbent president Lungu ‘defected’ to support his rival, Hakainde Hichilema (HH) in 2021.
