This project began as an exploration of the ways I could create photographic prints with exhausted photochemistry. It has expanded into an in-depth investigation into the materiality/ material properties of the differing forms of human recorded media. Things like Polaroids, Cyanotypes, Cassettes, CDs, Daguerreotypes, Vinyl’s and VHS tapes are all attempts at extending and expanding the capability and capacity of memory beyond its human(limited) lifespan. In my work I break these artifacts down to their constituent components in order to understand them. I am interested in their material properties, historical context and how that information determines their future (re)use.
