Dr Hangala Siachiwena
Dr. Hangala Siachiwena is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Social Policy with the Institute for Democracy, Citizenship and Public Policy in Africa (IDCPPA) at the University of Cape Town (UCT). The fellowship is funded through the Carnegie Foundation's Developing Academic Leaders (DEAL 2) programme. He has also been a Lecturer (on contract) in the Sociology department at UCT since 2018 and a Member of Data Management Team for the Afrobarometer Network.
His academic background is primarily in development studies, and straddles across several social science disciplines, including economics, politics and sociology. For his doctoral thesis, he investigated how and why changes of government affect policy making on social cash transfer programmes.
His research interests include social protection, social policy, public policy, the politics of development, and elections and democracy.
