Wilhelm Delport is an Honorary Research Affiliate at the University of Cape Town, where he completed a PhD in Musicology (2020) with a thesis on the continuous reinvention of the piano sonata paradigm by South African composers to reflect the country’s dynamic cultural identity. He is the Editor-in-Chief and Operations Manager of the internationally refereed Journal of the Musical Arts in Africa (JMAA, ISSN:1812–1004), which is published by NISC in partnership with Taylor and Francis. Delport has been associated with JMAA for over a decade and has spearheaded various projects to promote and develop academic scholarship in musical arts on the African continent, including special issues on the musical arts of Nigeria and Ghana. As a member of the Outreach Committee of the International Association of Music Libraries, Archives and Documentation Centres (IAML), Delport has conducted research on post-colonial archival practices in Africa and the marginalisation of previously disadvantaged composers in South African music collections. His research on (South) African music has been included in various international publications and conferences.
