About
The Schock Foundation was established by the late Judge Philip Schock to assist and support charities and educational institutions in South Africa.
The SACM has a long and proud tradition of chamber music training. Up to 2006, the course was convened by Assoc Prof François du Toit, from 2007-2021, the convener was Dr Becky Steltzner, and from 2022, it is convened again by Assoc Prof François du Toit. The students do four projects per year; three can be individual movements, but one must be a full work. All projects are examined in public concerts.
It is from the full-work exams that the finalists for this competition have been chosen. We would like to thank our “support base” for this competition:
- Brian Béchet and the Philip Schock Charitable and Educational Foundation for their generous gift of the Prizes.
- The Chamber Music coaches: Assoc Prof François du Toit, Graham du Plessis and Dr Liesl Stoltz.
- The examiners who mark the exams from which the finalists are chosen: Assoc Prof François du Toit, Graham du Plessis and Dr Liesl Stoltz.
- And last, but definitely not least, the teachers who train the competing musicians.
