UCT TV Studio is a dynamic, multi-functional media production facility within the Centre for Film and Media Studies at the University of Cape Town. We operate at the intersection of creative production, accessible learning, and social impact - with a mission to democratise media education and foster compelling stories that inspire change.
Situated on two levels in the Baxter Theatre Centre, UCT TV Studio offers a 9 x 12m, fully soundproofed, staging area with an overhead lighting grid and adjacent control room. This control area houses equipment for both High Definition and Standard Definition video recording, with the HD section able to extend studio function by generating virtual studio sets.
Telling Stories with Purpose
Our in-house production unit offers end-to-end services for clients across academia and industry - from concept development and scriptwriting to filming, editing, and delivery. We produce learning content, marketing videos, multi-camera podcasts, and live broadcasts that reflect the excellence and diversity of the UCT community and beyond.
A Stepping Stone to the Industry
Since 2012, our Stepping Stone programme has provided free, skills-based training in video production to aspiring filmmakers from Cape Town and surrounding communities. With short courses, bootcamps, and intensive studio experiences, we offer practical tools and real-world exposure to participants aged 18–35 years old.
Media for Impact
We actively support community-driven initiatives and collaborative projects that use film and video as tools for social justice. From the UCT-certified Impact Facilitator online course in partnership with Sunshine Cinema, to ScreenCubator support for alumni and students, and the Climate Story Lab ZA, we are committed to media that matters.
By opening our doors and sharing our resources, we aim to foster a spirit of ubuntu - a community of creators working together to tell stories that shape a better future.
