Opera UCT is one of South Africa's leading institutions for opera training, preparing young singers for major international careers through world-class performance opportunities, exceptional vocal training and comprehensive artistic development. Based at the University of Cape Town's South African College of Music, Opera UCT combines outstanding opera training with a dynamic programme of fully staged opera productions, concerts, recitals and community performances.

Opera UCT presents an annual season of opera and vocal performances at some of Cape Town's premier venues, including the Baxter Theatre, Artscape and Cape Town City Hall. From timeless operatic masterpieces to innovative new works, Opera UCT offers audiences outstanding live performances while providing emerging artists with invaluable professional experience.

With over 70 years of opera excellence, our graduates perform with leading companies including Cape Town Opera and on stages such as the Metropolitan Opera, La Scala and the Royal Opera House. Opera UCT continues to contribute to South Africa’s rich operatic tradition through performances, education, research and new works.

The Opera UCT Scholarship Fund – Higher education in South Africa, like in many parts of the world, is becoming increasingly expensive—and for many talented young musicians, that cost can be a barrier. The Opera UCT Scholarship Fund directly supports student tuition and living costs.

Establish a New Scholarship - One of the most impactful ways to support Opera UCT students is by creating a named scholarship in your own name or in honour of someone important to you. Opera UCT selects recipients in accordance with the donor’s stated wishes and eligibility criteria.
Tribute Gifts - You may choose to make your donation in honour or in memory of a loved one, teacher, or musician. Please indicate the individual’s name when making your contribution, or contact us directly to discuss a tribute gift.

Endowed Scholarships - An endowed scholarship is a powerful, long-term investment in Opera UCT’s future. With a minimum donation, a fund is created that generates annual income—supporting students year after year, forever. It’s an excellent way to leave a legacy or honour a loved one’s passion for opera and education.

Unrestricted Giving – Supports urgent needs and emerging opportunities. Helps maintain and improve Opera UCT's practice rehearsal spaces, costumes and props.
