Associate Professor Amanda Tiffin

Associate Professor, Head of Jazz Studies, Jazz Voice, Jazz Composition & Arrangement

Amanda Tiffin is Head of Jazz Studies, and runs the Jazz Singing section at the University of Cape Town. She holds a Masters Degree in Jazz Composition and Vocal Performance, which was awarded with distinction. Amanda has gone on to become one of Cape Town’s best-loved vocalist-pianists, and a respected Musical Director/Arranger, orchestrator and composer.

Amanda has performed extensively as a vocalist and pianist in South Africa in numerous Jazz venues, Concert Halls and festivals. Internationally, she has appeared in London, toured extensively in Japan and Taiwan, with recent performances in Paris and Italy.

A versatile artist, Amanda has performed in varying genres: from Musical theatre and stage shows to intimate jazz concerts. She is in demand as a Musical Director, and is a busy arranger, writing for a variety of combinations, but specializing in vocal arranging and producing, and big band writing. She is currently the musical director and main arranger for the Lady Day Big Band.

Amanda has recorded 6 albums, and is set to release a seventh recording with the Lady Day Big Band. Amanda is a passionate and respected educator, and regularly conducts workshops and master classes throughout South Africa and abroad. Her students have gone on to achieve success on international stages, as local recording artists and as educators in schools and institutions all over South Africa.
