Prof. Pippa Skotnes together with Fazlin van der Schyff at her farewell in 2022.
The CCA and Michaelis School of Fine Art are deeply saddened by the passing of Fazlin van der Schyff on the 5th of August 2024. Fazlin trained at the Scanshop, scanning and retouching images. She worked for more than 15 years as the digital technician at the CCA, UCT digitising the Bleek and Lloyd archive and adding to the metadata for the websitehttp://lloydbleekcollection.cs.uct.ac.za/. Her contribution is recognized as important for the project and for the country as a whole. She assisted with countless CCA projects over this time, doing the printing and scanning for most of the exhibitions listed on the CCA site including Martyrs, Saints and Sell-outs and Sequins, Self and Struggle. She assisted many other Michaelis staff and students with printing and scanning, working with care, humour and sensitivity. She was a tireless worker and loyal colleague who struggled with her health for many years and yet continued to contribute to the school and CCA until late 2022. As a valued member of our team she will be greatly missed. Our thoughts are with her children and grandchildren.
