The Centre for Curating the Archive, in collaboration with the University of Pretoria, is launching the publication, Impossible Return: Cape Town’s Forced Removals by Dr Siona O’Connell (NB Publishers).

This publication forms part of a long-running project, curated by Dr O’Connell, which uses David Brown’s photographs of the Harfield community pre- and during forced removals, as a starting point to investigate questions around trauma, memory and freedom in the afterlife of apartheid.

The book will feature Brown’s photographs alongside narrative chapters detailing the experiences of families forcibly removed from Harfield.

This event is open to the public and will open with a panel discussion.

Refreshments will be served.
