The Steelband Project (Western Cape) was set up in 1997 by Liz Brouckaert and David Wickham. The core focus of the project is to provide quality music education to young people, with a particular focus on youth in under-resourced communities and “youth-at-risk”. The project is active in many suburban, township and rural areas and there are currently 10 steelbands being taught by the Steelband Project on a weekly basis, with an average size of 15 members.

The following steelbands will be participating: For Life Steelband; Muizenberg Junior School; Heideveld Secondary; Riebeek Kastel; Normoyle Primary School (E. Cape); Queen’s College Primary (E. Cape); Wynberg Boys’ High School; Nelson Mandela Bay University Steelband (E. Cape). The Wynberg Boys’ High School Steelband is currently taught by professional steelpan player and arranger, Dave Reynolds.
