Opera UCT, in collaboration with the Suidoosterfees, stages Gluck’s seminal opera Orfeo ed Euridice about the power of love and music to defy death. Directed and designed by Fred Abrahaamse and Marcel Meyer, with Rosa van der Dussen as Orfeo, the UCT Symphony Orchestra conducted by Jeremy Silver, and the special partnership of Cape Ballet Africa.

Can love and music change the course of destiny? Gluck’s retelling of this timeless Greek myth encompasses the heights and depths of human experience as the musician Orpheus attempts to bring his beloved wife, Eurydice, back from the dead. This beautiful opera has captivated audiences in Cape Town and across the world for many years. 

The opera will be sung in Italian with captions projected in English and isiXhosa.
