APPLYING FOR HONOURS

Applicants must follow these steps:

  1. Make an on-line application for study through the central UCT admissions office

  2. Complete and return the departmental application form directly to the department by no later than 31 October of the year preceding study. 

  3. However, in 2015, we will accept applications until 30 November, given the protests of October 2015.

Applications will not be considered unless both forms have been received. The closing date for applications is the last day in October of the year preceding study. If examination results are not yet available, these will be secured by the University. Applicants from universities other than University of Cape Town should provide their students numbers on the application form.

All candidates will be advised of the outcome of their applications by the second week in December. Successful candidates are required to confirm their acceptance in writing within two weeks.

APPLYING FOR AN MA IN PSYCHOLOGICAL RESEARCH

Applicants must follow these steps:

1. Make an on-line application for study through the central UCT admissions office

2.  Complete the application form, with the supporting documentation required, and submit it to Rosalind Adams in the Department of Psychology by the last day in October of the year preceding study.

3.  However, in 2015, we will accept applications until 30 November, given the protests of October 2015.

Applications will not be considered unless both forms have been received. The closing date for applications is the first Friday of December. If examination results are not yet available, these will be secured by the University.

Please note that students who obtain a final mark of 70% or more in the Honours programme may progress to the M.A. in Psychological Research Programme.

It is strongly recommended that students apply with a strong idea of which staff member will be supervising their thesis. The list of staff and their research interests can be found here.

 

APPLYING FOR AN MA IN CLINICAL PSYCHOLOGY

Applicants must follow these steps:

  1. Read the application handbook available here.

  2. Make an on-line application for study through the central UCT admissions office

  3. Download the course application form from the Child Guidance Clinic. Once completed, it should be returned to the clinic by no later than Friday 29th of May preceding the year of study.

  4. Submit three referee's reports to the Clinic. Referee report forms are available here.

APPLYING FOR AN MSOCSC IN PSYCHOLOGY

Applicants must follow these steps:

  2. Applicants should read, complete and submit this application form to the department by no later than 31 October of the year preceding study.

APPLYING FOR MA IN NEUROPSYCHOLOGY

Admission requirements:

(a) Faculty admission requirements as set out under Rule FM3 apply

(b) Programme admission requirements:

Neuropsychology Honours credit

Not less than 70% aggregate Honours mark and not less than 70% Neuropsychology Honours mark

Suitability for neuropsychological clinical practice.

Applicants must follow these steps:

  1. Make an on-line application for study through the central UCT admissions office

  2. Complete and submit this application form to the department by no later than 31 October of the year preceding study. (This date is fixed for 2015, and cannot be moved)

  3. Provide a motivational letter

APPLYING FOR A PHD IN PSYCHOLOGY

Applicants must follow these steps:

  1. The first step in the process is to find a supervisor, and to obtain agreement from the supervisor regarding supervision of the research for the degree. When attempting to find a supervisor in the department, applicants are advised to submit a short (5 - 8 page) research proposal to staff members. The list of staff and their research interests can be found here.

  2. The next step after securing a supervisor is to write to the PhD Convenor, Dr Floretta Boonzaier with proof of agreement from a supervisor, a CV and the brief research proposal. This application will be considered by a Departmental Committee. Closing date for these applications is 30 May and 30 November each year.

  3. Applicants must also apply to the university for the degree after securing a supervisor and being admitted to the department.
