HUMA relaunched with Dr Divine Fuh appointed Director
HUMA, the Institute for Humanities in Africa at the University of Cape Town is being relaunched. In a message to the Faculty, the Dean of the UCT Faculty of of Humanities, Shose Kessi, announces that HUMA is being revived after a period of inactivity: “As you know, HUMA has always been an important project for the Faculty and one that used to be a lively centre for interdisciplinary research activity.”
Dr Divine Fuh of Social Anthropology who was on secondment at the Council for the Development of Social Social Science Research in Africa (CODESRIA) has been appointed as Interim Director of HUMA from 2020–2022.
In her message, the Dean announced that under Dr Fuh’s leadership, the Institute has already raised a new and significant grant from the Carnegie Corporation of New York and will be working on some interesting projects all centered on the institute’s original theme of re-imagining the human in Africa.
An event will be organized later in the year to mark the re-launch of the Institute.
