Honour Dance banner

The CTDPS is proud to present the final work of our 2022 Honours in Dance Students, Sasha Fourie, Olwethu Katase, Adriana Jamisse & Thato Mtshabe.

The challenge of a substantive, practical exposition (outward expression) of critical research questions (inward feelings & thoughts) is a major aspect of the task and the experience before us. We invite you into a sensory and immersive encounter with four complex navigations. These are offered by our postgraduate dance students in 2022: Sasha Fourie, Adriana Jamisse, Olwethu Katase and Thato Mtshabe. I am proud and grateful to them for their commitment to the processual nature of dance-making and their gentleness in art in and through the body. The sometimes-uneasy paths of their study have included a relooking at archives both private and public, embodied and objectified, and at dance as performative texts that can and are finally reconstituted here. As bodies that are in constant flux physically, emotionally and psychosocially this attempt, Honour Dance, teases (en)tangled lives as we come to understandings of presence, being and becoming. In this way we honour ourselves, you our generative audience and Dance itself.
