IDCPPA Emeritus Professor Chris Saunders latest for 2024, and upcoming projects

Chris Saunders attended an editorial workshop at the University of Leipzig at the end of June. With colleagues from Germany and Portugal, he is editing a third volume of papers on aspects of African decolonisation, to be published by De Gruyter in early 2025.
In September he spoke online at a conference held in Moscow in honour of the leading Russian scholar of Africa Apollon Davidson.
He returned to Germany in late September to attend the German African Studies conference held at the University of Bayreuth. Over 450 Africanist scholars met over three days. Chris co-convened two panels and presented a paper comparing the roles of communist actors in Namibian and South African liberation struggles. At the conference he and Christi van der Westhuizen of NMU were interviewed together on recent developments in South Africa.
