Chris Saunders presents at King's College and the European Conference on African Studies
On September 7th, Professor Chris Saunders spoke at King's College London. He gave a talk titled "Conflicts in Southern Africa in Historical Perspective" as part of the War Studies Department speaker series.
Prior to this event, Dr. Saunders had been invited to participate in a conference on UN peacekeeping efforts in Africa being held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Unfortunately, due to visa issues, he was unable to travel to that conference as planned.
In his talk at King's College, Dr. Saunders shared insights from his research on political instability across Southern Africa over the past century. This included analysis of transformations in countries like Angola, South Africa, and Zimbabwe viewed through a historical lens.
In June, Dr. Saunders also launched a new co-edited book at the European Conference on African Studies in Germany. Titled "Eastern Europe, the Soviet Union, and Africa," the publication offers fresh perspectives on African decolonization between the 1950s-1990s.
Dr. Saunders' work provides useful context for understanding contemporary issues on the politically diverse African continent by examining its relationships with global powers in the past. His talks and publications advance important discussions on this subject area.
