Destiny_02 is the latest solo exhibition by Johann van der Schijff.  The installation is the culmination of three years of work, featuring large-scale sculptural components alongside landscape photographs, taken during his recent travels through South Africa, Namibia, Zambia, Zimbabwe and Mozambique.

Whereas Van der Schijff’s previous work dealt with the pervasiveness of violence in South Africa, his focus for this exhibition has shifted towards contemplating humanity’s impact on the planet.

Destiny_02 = space + time travel + horizon + treasure chest.

Van der Schijff is an Associate Professor in the sculpture section of the Michaelis School of Fine Art at the University of Cape Town, where he started teaching in 2001. His work has been exhibited both nationally and internationally.
