We are also excited to invite photographers to submit their work for the 2013 Ernest Cole Photographic Award. All submissions need to be received by the 14th June 2013. These should be submitted in line with the submission guidelines provided on the website (http://www.ernestcoleaward.org).

This prestigious South African photography award has been initiated under the auspices of the University of Cape Town Libraries and offers a unique opportunity for photographers to complete an existing project. The winning photographer will receive R150 000.00 with which to complete the project, hold exhibitions during 2014 and to publish a book thereof.

The Ernest Cole Photographic Award was established to stimulate creative documentary work in photography in Southern Africa. The emphasis will be on creative responses to South African society and is open to anyone whose work focuses on South African society, with preference being given to people living within the country. The purpose of the Award is to support the realisation of a significant body of work that the photographer has been engaged with. As previously mentioned, the 2012 winner, Ilan Godfrey, will be launching his book later in 2013 to coincide with exhibitions of his work in Johannesburg, in Durban and in Cape Town from 29th. This Award has been made possible by the generous support of the Peter Brown, Gavin Relly Educational and Kirsh Family Trusts, and is managed by the UCT Libraries.
