Liesl will be speaking about the creation of the mural painting at the Norma Road Primary school motivated by her experience in Philadelphia, USA where she participated in the Mural Arts professional development week for school teachers. She will explain the process from conceptualization to the final installation and dedication earlier this year. Her presentation will include a brief input on the Mural Art Project in Philadelphia as well the Ibhabhathane school programme at the Frank Joubert Art Centre.

Liesl Hartman serves as the current principal of the Frank Joubert Art Centre. Prior to this position she was the HOD (Head of Department) at the centre and FET Specialist in Painting. She is the current chairperson of the Ibhabhathane Project which facilitates and co-ordinates teacher In-service workshops in visual art and art workshops for learners from community schools. Prior to her work at the FJAC she worked as the Education Officer at the South African National Gallery (now Iziko). She has been an active participant in community arts educational initiatives throughout her teaching career locally and nationally.
