Curated by Alexander Richards and Phokeng Setai, Exhibition Match explores the intersection of football and art, and reflects on collectivism, competition and community.

Exhibition Match is what the term describes: an art exhibition and a friendly football match that becomes a moment in which the various football appreciating spheres of the arts ecosystem can connect – in the spirit of collaboration, partnership, and play.

The live football match is played between artists, curators, collectors, shipping registrars, writers and any others with a connection to the arts. Alongside the match is an exhibition of artworks that somehow relate to the sport by artists from across the world.

This year, Exhibition Match curates Cabinet/Trophy: Playing the Field at Cape Town Art Fair, where 10 galleries from across the world are invited to furnish the (Trophy) Cabinet with works that capture the broad essence of ‘Play’.
