This lecture, titled Work in Process’ will look at Edmunds’ work in the terms of several processes that have consistently pre-occupied him, rather than in a chronological fashion. Viewing his characteristic labour-intensive practice in this way provides some insight into his varied production.
Although primarily a sculptor, Paul Edmunds works in many media, both graphic and sculptural, and has explored diverse subject matter.
‘Work in Process’ will look at Edmunds’ work in the terms of several processes that have consistently pre-occupied him, rather than in a chronological fashion. Viewing his characteristic labour-intensive practice in this way provides some insight into his varied production.
Edmunds has exhibited widely in South Africa and abroad, and his work is found in many private and public collections in SA, as well as overseas, notably in the Museum of Modern Art. He currently works from a studio in Salt River, and is represented by Stevenson Gallery here and RH Gallery in New York. Paul Edmunds was born in Johannesburg and studied at the University of Natal, Pietermaritzurg, where he obtained a Master’s in 1996. Since then he has lived and practiced in Cape Town.
