The 2013 Sasol New Signatures art competition is currently underway. Launched in April this year, the competition aims to celebrate the immense talent that exists in South Africa, while providing a reputable platform for artists to showcase their artwork and build their profile in the industry.
As part of the entry process, potential entrants will be given an opportunity to see acclaimed artist and Chairman of the Sasol New Signatures art competition, Peter Binsbergen hosting information sessions throughout the country between April and May 2013.
The information session will take potential contestants through the competition’s history and logistics and will also provide a valuable opportunity for artists to gain knowledge around the judging process, advice on conceptualisation, display and presentation techniques.
“The Sasol New Signatures competition is distinctive among other competitions as it not only provides a strong platform to advance the country’s emerging talent but also offers a personal informative programme for artists to gain valuable practical and technical knowledge regarding the arts,” said Sasol’s Sponsorship Manager, Richard Hughes.
The winner of the competition will walk away with a cash prize of R60 000 and an opportunity to hold a solo exhibition at the Pretoria Art Museum next year. The runner up will walk away with R20 000 and five merit winners will receive
R5 000 each.
New, innovative artists who believe they have what it takes to make an impact in the industry are encouraged to submit one or two artworks at one of several collection points around the country between Tuesday, 2 July 2013 and Wednesday, 3 July 2013.
