Handfuls of Dirt, Feet Full of Devil's Thorns.

My artworks explore the relationship between human anxiety and the natural world through the lens of biosemiotics and ecocriticism. Drawing inspiration from my experiences in nature, particularly at Borrelfontyn, my family’s coastal conservation farm, I engage with the duality of beauty and danger inherent in wild spaces. Each piece serves as a reflection of my journey toward understanding how signs in our environment shape our perceptions and interactions.

Utilising natural materials such as clay, grass, and sawdust, I create installations that invite viewers to confront their own interpretations of safety and vulnerability. How do you respond to a nest surrounded by thorns, horns, and fossilized elements when it’s quiet? How do you perceive an octopus reaching out to touch you? Consider how safe you feel listening to the ebb and flow of waves or the distant call of a bird.

Through my installations, I aim to foster a deeper awareness of our interconnectedness with all living beings, inviting contemplation on the negotiation of meaning within our relationships with nature.
