UCT Symphonic Wind Ensemble
The UCT Symphonic Wind Ensemble, comprising of about sixty-five under- and post-graduate students returns to the stage for their second concert of 2025, under the baton of Brandon Phillips, Head of Woodwind and Ensembles at UCT.
This dynamic programme opens with James Barnes’ energetic Alvamar Overture, a spirited work that showcases the ensemble’s precision and vitality. A highlight of the evening will be Mike Mower’s Concerto for Flute and Wind Orchestra, featuring Lisa van Wyk as soloist. Mower’s vibrant and jazz-infused concerto provides the perfect platform for van Wyk’s expressive artistry and dazzling technique. The concert closes with Gustav Holst’s beloved First Suite for Military Band, a cornerstone of wind ensemble repertoire known for its lyrical elegance and bold harmonies.
