Professor Floretta Boonzaier delivered her inaugural lecture on 11th September 2024, on the topic “Finding Hope and Healing while Researching Violence: Decolonial Feminist Explorations into Gender-Based Violence and Femicide”.  In this lecture, Prof. Boonzaier traced some of the questions that have occupied her over the preceding 20 years of research on gendered and sexual violence. She traced a decolonial feminist trajectory and located these questions from within her personal history of intergenerational and historical trauma – of silences and erasures toward epistemic justice, hope and healing. She illustrated how her scholarship has offered a decolonial feminist framing of gender-based violence and femicide that allows for the asking of questions unthought, of centering dignity, humanity, voice, positionality, geographies, histories, ethics and healing justice.
